Beethoven’s Fifth and seventh Symphonies are orchestral blockbusters, musical superstars that transcend the boundaries between so-callled high culture and pop culture. This recording presents Jaap van Zweden’s inaugural performances with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra as Music Director Designate. During the DSO’s Beethoven Festival in autumn 2007, Maestro van Zweden and the orchestra charged the Morton Myerson Symphony Center with electricity and dynamism.
The Fifth Symphony is an iconic work moving from struggle to ulitmate triumph over adversity. The Seventh Symphony also has vibrant rhythms and propulsive energy.
